        Landon and Kate + 8

Hey everyone, and welcome to our blog!
Landon and I have some exciting news to share with you......

If you haven't heard yet,

Landon and I will be moving to Ghana, Africa this fall!!!

Pretty shocking, right? :)
We will be going with a non-profit organization good friends of ours have started called Eight Oaks. It was created to rescue eight girls from slavery and provide them with a loving home and new lives, all in the name of Christ!

These kids will be rescued from lake Volta, one of the largest man made lakes in the world, where there are 7,000 child slaves working for up to 20 hours everyday. Unfortunately, these kids, some as young as four, are forced to do some very dangerous work. Their main tasks include rowing fishing boats, bailing water, and swimming down to the bottom of the lake to untangle and retrieve fishing nets. It is not uncommon for the kids to get caught in the nets and drown.

These children also suffer from malnutrition, receiving only one meal a day, lack of education, and physical and sexual abuse.

Slavery is illegal in Ghana, but they lack the infrastructure to enforce such laws. Thankfully, there are Ghanaians who care enough about the children to address the problems at the lake. One such man, George Achibra, is a former school teacher who has dedicated his life to rescuing the children and placing them in safe environments where they can receive love and education. His work, though, is only possible if there are others who are willing to provide such a place. One such organization was formed several years ago to provide rescued slaves with safety, love and education in the name of Christ.  This organization is called the Father’s house, and it is home to eight boys.

Inspired by their work, close friends of ours have been working to establish a similar organization named Eight-Oaks. Landon and I have been asked to be the house-parents and participate in the rescue of eight girls. After much prayer and consideration, we believe that the Lord is calling us to go and serve Him in this way. We have the opportunity to bring freedom to these children and give them a home where they can be loved and protected. Eventually, we will be able to offer them the chance to receive an education which empowers them to break the cycle of poverty that has affected their families for generations, all in the name of Christ.

We will be living in Ghana for an undetermined amount of time, likely one or two years. We invite you to join us on this exciting and daunting journey that lies ahead. We know that the Lord goes before us, and appreciate your prayers, both as we prepare and serve at Eight Oaks. We look forward to the opportunity to rescue these eight girls and raise them in the love of Christ. We trust that the Lord will provide all that we need, and ask that you consider whether you are being called to play an essential role in making that happen.

If you would like to support Landon and I financially, you can make a tax deductible donation to:
